On Friday, August 24, Kalas honored five Bulk associates for extending exceptional effort to support our business. Barry Kramer, Alex Roman, James Roman, Ron Crills, and Bob Ludwig were all invited to the Baltimore Orioles vs. Toronto Blue Jays game along with Dave Hackman as guests of the Milby Company. “The annual Orioles game is just one of the things we do to express our gratitude to our associates for going above and beyond what is asked of them. Both our Bulk and ECPD divisions have really stepped up their levels of performance throughout the year, and we are grateful for their commitment to Kalas and our customers – it’s an honor to have these guys on our team,” commented Dennis Melnyk, Kalas COO.

The Kalas Foundation has been grateful to support the charitable efforts of Kennedy Kulish and the Kisses for Kaeden Foundation; supporting children born with heart defects. To date, Kennedy has raised more than $135,000! She was recognized as a winner of the illustrious Jefferson Award for community service in November 2011, and was also a state honoree of national The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards in February 2009, receiving her award from then President George Bush.

Congratulations to the Pennsylvania Power under-14 girls’ softball team! This weekend they secured the covered first place finish in the state championship tournament. Terry Shreiner, Bulk Wire Lab Technician, has served as the team’s head coach for the last four years, and his daughter is a member of the championship team. As a non-profit organization, the Kalas Foundation has supported the Pennsylvania Power team to off-set the costs associated with their program.

We are excited to announce the addition of Penny Boonpoon to Kalas. Penny joins our finance & accounting team as a financial analyst supporting our divisional leadership teams. She began her education in her native country, Thailand in electronics engineering, and has since held positions in quality engineering, product development as well as a wide assortment of roles with financial planning responsibilities. Penny is a recent graduate of the Fox School of Business, Temple University with an MBA in Finance.
On June 12th, Volvo hosted a Supplier Information Exchange Day at their New River Valley Plant in Dublin, Virginia. Three suppliers were invited to meet with Volvo’s logistics team for an overview of their returnable program (emballage) and a tour of NRV with a focus on operational excellence. Chris Gockley, Wanda McCue and Darlene Garcia from our office made the trip and were very impressed.
